The large bar space, coupled with several large plasma screen TVs, make the Elgin Inn Hotel a great place to watch sporting events. A full Fox Sports package means if it's on, they will show it. A-League Football gets a good run, not to mention plenty of cricket and football.
Compared with many other Hawthorn pubs, the Elgin Inn Hotel appears to support no particular football team, but rather welcomes enthusiastic debate as to which team is the best (don't expect them to sugar-coat it though!).
The beer is served sensationally cold, with the bar staff remarking that it's possibly 'the coldest in Melbourne'. Management attributed it to regular maintenance and a passion for looking after their beer installation.
The happy hour on Thursday nights is nothing short of famous, and a good number of regular food deals make a cheap night out easy. At the same time, there are restaurant quality meals there for those that want that something special. The decent-sized bistro area tends to get quite busy, so that's always a good sign.

Readers' Reviews
As a regular of The Elgin's parma night on Wednesdays, I recently held my 30th birthday in their newly rennovated function room. The room was sensational, staff fantastic, and the service was second to none. Compared with other pubs and function rooms in the area I found The Elgin to be very reasonably priced. Downstairs offers a relaxed atmosphere in old school surroundings where the staff are friendly and chatty - the way a pub should be. With a separate dining area and contempory menu, the beer is always cold and the food fantastic - I highly recommend you pay a visit.

The Elgin Inn can be considered a proper pub. Relaxed atmosphere, a selection of beers on tap with all measures served, good reasonably priced food and most sporting events screened to keep you up to date with the latest, and footpath tables at the side to enjoy the afternoon Sun.
