There's something about pubs that have atmosphere and the Union Club Hotel has plenty of it. It's an art deco style pub, tucked away on a quiet street in Fitzroy. Inside it's dark, with a huge curvaceous bar with plenty of bar stools to prop yourself on. The bar extends out into one huge living room with heaps of chairs and tables for a delicious well priced meal or just a chat and a drink. The best location would have to be on the rather "majestic" deep red velvet chairs which are very hard to leave once you've had a few. The clientele are of the typical Fitzroy persuasion i.e. artists, students, musicians etc. The bar staff are efficient and friendly. In fact, there's nothing wrong with his place. It's unpredictable, never disappointing and always worth a visit.

Recently dropped in while staying nearby over Easter. One of the best pubs I've encountered - and there have been a few! Music varied and volume allows conversation; friendly lively people; range of options for seating from singles to quite large groups; top food - quantity and quality; staff efficient and pleasant; pool table with players ranging from very good down to my level, so I didn't feel intimidated.

Good pubs by my account, aren't that easy to come by in my area. That means I need to travel a little further abroad. Not too polished, but not tacky either, the Union Club hotel is a warm, inviting place to be.

The food, typical pub fodder with a twist and I have to say, the girls in Lazy Susan's kitchen pump out some of the best Parma in town.

The old-style table-top game, Pool table and Pinball provided plenty of entertainment, while access to the open island bar made it easy to satisfy my thirst. Plently of seating and lounge space, and great winter beer garden make this unpretencious gem a must for a casual night out.
