Partystar Review
Just a turn from the Heart of Brunswick Street you'll find the Night Cat, a contemporary and Swing Jazz Club. Catering for most age groups and swinging on 'till late Thursday through Sunday this popular venue is great for a drink, cup of coffee, chat amongst friends or an all out romp on the dance floor. Attracting a trendy and hip crowd you'll find no beer monsters here, just an approachable class of people out for a good time. With its painted Checkerboard floor, dance area and seventies "retro" lighting and furniture the mood is set, you cannot help but move and groove.

Great atmosphere with interesting decor and fantastic live music. The clientelle age range is widely varied but everybody seems to get on well. Lighting over the bar needs to be improved though as incorrect change was given more times that it should have.

my friend's and i (we're in the 19-20 ages group)went for the salsa class for beginners on sunday, the dance floor was crowded, but fun none the less. we learnt a few moves and everyone had a great time even the hesitant ones. The crowd of people on sunday were mainly 25+, the dimly lit red light really did set the mood for a salsa bar, there were quite a few people lounging around and a quite a few people on the moderate size dance floor, it can get quite crowded so be prepared to to get stepped on a few times. cloaking was $3 per a item. ladies should definitely cloak their bags and not leave them on the tables.
kudo's to the band and teachers

The Night Cat is a large venue dedicated to live music and dancing. Funk, R&B and Latin musicians create such loud and professional sounds that you almost forget the music is live. The genres bring a multicultural crowd of all ages (18+), although the place is being discovered by increasing numbers of younger people who are after something different.
The interesting decor just adds to the atmosphere - I'm talking about upside-down lampshades all over the ceiling (it's fun to count them) giving the room an amber glow, and large framed mirrors covering the walls. Since the no smoking law has come in, you can really appreciate these kooky touches, as well as the clever layout with the bar at the back, band in the centre and dance floor at the front. And you don't come out smelling like an ashtray.
The Night Cat is most alive on a Sunday night, with Salsa lessons followed by live Latin music, and boy does it attract a crowd! The dance floor welcomes everyone, regardless of style or skill. Some patrons prefer to stand around and watch, while others take a break from dancing and cool down on the couches at the back, where you are more likely to fall into conversation with others. The night is funnest near closing when the dance floor frees up and they play funk and soul classics.

It's always good in terms of music and vibe... If you like a boogie and funk music, Saturday nights are great. The lighting is suitably dim, the space is quite large and people are generally friendly. A great place to end a night - it heats up around midnight til late.
