Why are there so many pubs called Royal Hotel? Were the royals once boozy Brits who scoured Australia for pot 'n parma specials?

While we ponder that, step into Paddington's Royal and face yet another dilemma. It's a quandary, a decision, a dichotomy. To go to the Royal on the ground floor with big screen sports and pub classics, or up to the Elephant Bar for more lavish dining and drinks? I think the Queen would go up and Prince Harry down.
