The Coq is one of those "new-but-old" places that manages to get away with the fact that it is a redeveloped pub, with the beaten-up retro style couches and seating of Revolver down the road. Drinks prices are average for the Chapel St area, and the place never really gets to the point of being uncomfortably crowded. As already mentioned, the pizzas are great (and ever-popular at lunch with the Swinburne students) and well-priced.
Just be aware though, that on the regular big nights, the bouncers can be pretty tight. You need a decent girl-to-guy ratio just to get in. But other than that, the Coq proves to be a consistently good watering hole for one good reason: it never tries too hard.

Lucky coq is a fantastic place if you want to lay back and have a few drinks with friends to catch up, or either to just have a good old drinking night but without too much music or dancing. It's large, with dim lights and heaps of comfy chairs. An outdoors smoking area on the 2nd floor for all the smokers. Not too loud with the music. Crazy, and fantastic staff and a brilliant variety of drinks to get from the bar.

Lucky Coq, the reincarnation of the famous Duke on the corner of High speaks for itself to those who fiercely protested its development. It is a great venue that bears striking resemblence to its sister venue Bimbo's, including the well priced pizzas. It largely consists of comfy lounge areas yet has everything you'd expect from a relaxed yet trendy pub including a DJ booth, beer garden and pool table.
It's good place to have a few beers going to or from somewhere, catch up with friends or turn it up a bit on weekends as it does get busy on Friday and Saturday. 3am licence ain't bad either.
