Reportedly built in the early '20s, the Carlisle Castle Hotel came complete with a magnificent marble bar imported from Italy.

Its grandeur remains (and so does the bar) but after extensive renovations the Castle is a stylish, modern homage to its history. Some say a disgruntled prior employee called Pete haunts the venue, displaying a penchant for red wine and flagrant displays of violence. Well played, Pete.

History aside, Carlisle now specialises in quality pub food and craft beers; and has regular events like trivia, billiards, cocktail specials and more.

It's dog friendly, so sip an ale with your furry friend.
