Partystar Review

A dedicated pub in the heart of the city, Coopers Inn sprawls over three floors. However, evening arrivees will only ever see the ground floor as the top two floors are reserved for lunch and functions.

The casual drinker, however, is superbly served on the ground floor, and the feel is large and well-maintained. Patrons are in their late 20s and upwards, and Coopers Inn caters well to the lunch and after-work crowd. Tables are kept simple, and a generous bar area is leaned on by many.

Traditional pub meals are served, and prices are medium, perhaps even a touch cheap considering one is in the city. There's also a huge beer bottle/can collection to explore on one of the walls. The odd band and trivia night also features. Comedy is a regular event which is great to see. Oh, and for those wondering, there's not a TAB or gaming area in sight.

Coopers Inn is the type of place you feel comfortable in as soon as you walk through the door. The decor is simple yet stylish with a long bar which is spacious enough to mingle with friends along. The food portions were large considering the price - a great, place to have a long Friday lunch.

Coopers Inn is the type of place you feel comfortable in as soon as you walk through the door. The decor is simple yet stylish with a long bar which is spacious enough to mingle with friends along. There seemed to be quite a number of regular patrons and the bar staff knew them all by name! (The publican/manager seemed to know these people too). The food was well presented and portions were large considering the price - a great, place to have a long Friday lunch.

Coopers Inn is much bigger than expected on first arriving - there are three levels! Although we only got to visit the ground floor main bar due to private functions upstairs.

There is a great selection of beers on tap and the wine list included a nice selection of local and NZ wines. The bar staff were really friendly and bubbly - all seemed to know regulars by name.

We were 4 of about 60 people in the main bar with an average age group of about 30. We had some great meals and then stayed on to enjoy the karaoke, hosted by a fabulous performer Jackie.
