This big ole pub has always been a popular one with the uni crowd, largely due to its location near Melbourne Uni.

Cosmetic changes made in 2002 to make the Clyde more bar less pub and attract a more upmarket crowd have shifted the clientele slightly. There is still a great kitchen and a pool table (or two), but the main area is slick with dim lighting and nice furniture.

We like it, but pub people might be turned off. Check it out for yourself!

Outdoor Area / Beer Garden

The beer garden is now totally enclosed and heated in winter, while in summer the roof retracts to let the sunshine in. An all-seasons beer garden like this one is a great find!

A top pub superbly located across the road from Melbourne uni. The Clyde is the spiritual home for many students and clubs on campus and they are rewarded by the genial staff, excellent service and great food & drink. The 2005/06 renovations took this already great pub to new heights with an upmarket beer garden that attracts a newer clientele while keeping the indoors area comfy and warm.

The clientele varies depending on the time, the afternoons have local workers and occasionally students while the evenings will find the Clyde packed to the rafters with college students having a great time. Regardless of when the Clyde is visited it exceeds expectations and is one of the true gems in Carlton.
