And there we were thinking CQ was simply a small bar. Up a flight of stairs from the small downstairs section brought us into the action proper: a massive floor of tunes, bars, and a fresh vibe not seen in Melbourne for a long time. If we were forced to allocate stars, CQ would be a 4-star establishment; in no way shabby, but in no way Chapel Street either. Kind of that in between, classy feel.

A cover charge applies on weekends. Music? Cruisy dance.

CQ. As you walk through the glass doors, you're instantly confronted with a flight of stairs, that stare down at you from the heavens. At half-way, you notice an elusive room to your left. It all looks very neat, clean, and somewhat clinical. You try to peer into the room - but the music on the upper floor is humming in your ears - and you just have to find out what awaits.

Enter - CQ. A large room, graced with a large circular dance floor anticipates your next move. Straight ahead, and you'll find yourself in the courtyard - an outdoor haven of waterfalls, comfy seats, and a retro-chic mesh overhead. To your right, however, you will find a balcony that stretches the entire width of the dwelling - scattered with tables and chairs.

The people. If you've been to the Lexington of days gone by, you will fit in quickly, and maybe even see a familiar face or two. If not - then put your money on a great crowd, there for the same reason as you - to have a drink, meet a worthy companion, and ride the wave that is the transient beauty of the Melbourne bar scene.

The music. A little bit of 80s, some RnB, and some House. Great mix of all flavours. Though, I would advise you to leave your glowstick at home.
The nights. Just like the Lexington, Fridays are all about the after work crowd - and Saturdays are left for the kiddies to have a play.
