It is as veloury and upmarket a venue as you'd want, and brought to you by the folks from the old Windsor Castle. A life-sized ostrich and giraffe head are seriously impressive, not to mention the sound system - it may play background, but it's clean. A smart restaurant area is sufficiently tucked away not to interfere with antics at the bar.

Eager beavers best take note that the Carlton may operate a selective door policy during peak times with latecomers being routinely knocked back for not having the required "look". No wonder - it's a cool quirky place and a late licence, folks - 5am on the weekends.

Outdoor Area / Beer Garden

The Carlton Hotel's rooftop area, Palmz, has so much bamboo, thatched roofing and palm trees you'll insist on a small umbrella in your cocktail.
