Partystar Review

This formerly old school pub has had a fitout by Builders Arms cred, but is still a great accessible local with good, affordable gastropub-ish food.

The decor is a clever mix of genres tossed together with a relaxed, uncontrived approach. It's where slightly uneven concrete floors, a patch of floral nana carpet, spartan beer garden and dining area; and a modern central timber bar can live together cohesively.

A very old school pub. It reminds me of when I was in a pub in Blackwood in 1982. Racing on the telly, people are friendly. And wine's from a bottle (not meaning to be fussy). Altogether a nice experience.

PS What was your mission Denis? Intriguing!

The Victoria Hotel looks like it's had a few incarnations over the years. The name built into the faade of the building is Hart's Hotel, though in much smaller writing above what used to be the corner entrance (now just stairs leading up to a solid brick wall) is Hotel Victoria.

The Hotel has two main functions these day. It's a TAB, and it's a restaurant dishing up your typical pub grub food. The ground floor is split into two large rooms, the biggest of which is the bar and TAB, the smaller and quieter being the restaurant. There are also a few couches under the stairs in the restaurant part by an old juke box. The upstairs section is usually blocked off.

The place is always busy and clientele are mainly tradies and retirees. It definitely has a working class feel to it which I like.

I was in Footscray on a mission, and just happened to be going past around midday, and the old hunger pangs were biting! I called in , and menu looked terrific and with a very good selection to choose from!

I decided to have the rissoles, gravy and veg. Meal was a good size and was first class! Had a glass of Rosemount Merlo, just $5. Total cost around $18 ...great value!

Hotel is clientele varied with tradies, retirees and a mish mash of society. Setting is real cosy, spacious with expsed red brick walls etc.
