Partystar Review
This Victorian-era classic is family run and has all the trimmings, including a spacious main bar with pool tables, and a chandelier-lit dining room.
Although 120+ years old, the Royal's beverage selection has moved with the times and includes a massive array of craft beers from Oz and abroad.

Since I was here last time some 3 years ago this place has gone through some renovations . The restaurant has been transformed into some kind of blokey hotel where the emphasis is on the size of steak offered.

The Royal Hotel is one of a kind. For those who are familiar with the old TV series "Cheers" and its theme song, the Royal Hotel offers similar traits i.e. where everybody knows your name!. It only takes a couple of visits whether you are a uni student, single, married or a family of 5!, the Royal Hotel is one of those unique pubs which suits everyone and makes everyone feel welcome!. Its located in the back streets of Clifton Hill with ample parking for those who wish to drive or alternatively it is a hop, skip and jump away from the Clifton Hill train station. Its atmosphere is a delight. No gaming machines in sight and the actually size of the pub can be deceiving. As you walk into the front bar there is ample room to share drinks with your mates, and even meet the friendly locals. One thing ill say about the locals, they will always remember a face and a name so you will feel most welcome on your next visit! If you walk through to the back of the pub, there is another area with more pool tables which also leads into a dining room with beautiful furniture pieces. If only all pubs were like the Royal Hotel in Clifton Hill.

The Royal Hotel is one of those backstreet finds that always seems to be home to the friendly locals and passing tradies. A nice quiet and relaxed pub with no major trappings of gaming machines and crowd noise. It's easy to park out front, there's plenty on tap, the sun shines in nicely in the afternoon, there's a pool table and great counter meals. Nice place to drop in, have a drink and watch the footy on a Saturday.
