Partystar Review
The north side of Lygon Street is chock full of places that make you feel like you live there. But the Alderman with its front bar curved around the late arvo light has grown into something even closer. Part of this may be the collection of small trinkets that line the dark-wood panels. Or the beer garden. Boat shaped Middle Eastern Pizzas come steaming through a hatch in the fence alongside tasty snacks from Rumi next door, which is fast coming to be recognised one of Melbourne's finest places to push food from plate to mouth.
You can make what you like of the Alderman just by choosing where to sit: from the lounge-room with its local art works and plump couches, to the front bar which exudes a speakeasy sharpness, or out the back where you might shoo a friendly dog away from the dart board.
At night the place picks up with locals starting their night there and never leaving and diners coming over for an after meal drink.
Outdoor Area / Beer Garden
The Alderman's beer garden exudes typical Brunswick homeliness.

Second Opinion
This classic, Art Deco-inspired bar in East Brunswick is a local with heart and soul. Great eats and good drinks are on the menu.
